Consequences for Classroom Rules If you have successfully established routines through modeling, practice and relearning, you should have little need for consequences. If you have a question while I (or another teacher/administrator) am talking, raise your hand, and I will call on you. Classroom Rules 1. Keep your hands to yourself; do not touch anything that does not belong to you. Raise your hand and wait for permission to speak. If you have any trash, wait until you leave to throw it away. Third offense: Lunch detention. The bell does not dismiss you; I will dismiss you. A rule is an expectation that will not be lowered. If more than one student has a question/response, I will call on one student at a time. When the bell rings, be in your seat silently working on the bell ringer. Do not put your feet on the racks on the seat in front you. 2. As soon as the tardy bell rings, each student will be silent. Some possible rules for a high school classroom include: Arrive on Time : To keep the classroom running smoothly, everyone needs to be on time and ready to start class. (Water bottles are okay!) Once the papers have arrived at the far side of the room, I will come by and collect each stack. I expect all students to accept and follow my rules. Stay seated during the entire class period unless directed otherwise by the teacher. Anytime you use a piece of paper to write an assignment on, write the following on the top right-hand side of the page: For all other assignments, write your name and the date. You may go to the restroom three times per nine weeks. *** Severe disruption:  Student is sent to office immediately***. If working on an assignment, raise your hand to ask a question. When the bell rings, put away all electronic devices. When passing papers in after I have instructed you to do so, you will pass your paper to the person to your right. Three very commonly used consequences are referring a student to the office, calling the parents, or making an empty threat.
